A Simple Guide To Clearing Clogs From Your Electric Pressure Washer

by Candicea

An electric pressure washer works well with light cleaning duties. It usually operates under a PSI of 1000 to 2000. The PSI makes it easy to clean surfaces like your car or roof. However, there are some cases when your device does not work as you would like. The most common reason for poor performance is often a clogged pressure washer.

A clogged pressure washer can change your cleaning mood from good to worse. Therefore, it is better to equip yourself with the proper knowledge of unclogging a clogged pressure washing machine. Below is a simple guide to everything you need to know about the blocked device.

1. How do you know whether your electric pressure washer is clogged or not?

It is probably clogged if you pull the trigger and no water comes out. Also, if the water pressure is extremely low, there is a high chance that your device is blocked. In some cases, you may hear a sputtering sound, and your nozzle produces only a few drops, then it goes completely silent. If you check the hose and find nothing wrong with it, your machine is clogged.

In some cases, the clog may cause the motor to work overtime. Furthermore, it will consume more energy than it would have under normal circumstances. Thus, it impacts efficiency and energy consumption.

2. What influences your electric pressure washer to clog?

Several factors can cause your pressure washer to clog. The factors include;

  • Erosion and corrosion in various parts of the device: One of the main reasons there may be erosion and corrosion is if you use high-powered detergents. The detergents may cause a build-up which in turn blocks the nozzle. Thus, you should always use the recommended pressure washer’s detergent.
  • Debris in the nozzle. While handling a clogged pressure washer, checking for debris should be the first thing you do. The debris build-up usually happens over time. Furthermore, its presence reduces the machine’s performance.
  • Worn-out rubber seals. Worn-out rubber seals may cause particles to accumulate in the nozzle. Eventually, the particles build up and cause the nozzle to clog.

3. How to clear clogs in your electric pressure washer

· Remove the nozzle

Using a pen or paper clip to poke the nozzle may not unclog the nozzle efficiently. Thus, remove the nozzle from the machine.

· Use a clip or pin to poke the nozzle

Then, hold the nozzle sideways and use a pin to poke the holes. Afterwards, use a towel to wipe out the residue present on the pin and repeat the process.

· Flush water

After poking the nozzle, flush it with clean water. Then, ensure that you flush from the opposite direction until all the debris comes off. Afterwards, use a pin to confirm that there is no debris left. Repeat the process till the nozzle is extremely clean.

· Reconnect the nozzle

Connect the nozzle back to the machine. Then, turn the device on to check the water pressure. A properly unclogged nozzle will work efficiently.

A clogged electric pressure washer can limit the performance of the device. In such cases, the machine’s most likely clogged part is the nozzle. The above steps will guide you on how to unclog the machine without the help of an expert.
